One aspect of the Highland Rescue CARES program is with fall-risk assessments. Falls and subsequent injuries can be debilitating and in some cases, life threatening.
Highland Rescue's CARES resources can come and help you or a loved one with an in-home assessment of conditions and help with recommendations to help make the home safer. Highland Rescue uses a tool provided by the CDC to evaluate the home including:
- Checking to see if any furniture or rugs are in the way or unsecured
- Checking that lighting and visibility around the home is adequate
- Helping to ensure all medication is safe and within reach
- Checking bathrooms to ensure surfaces are non-slip
- Helping to coordinate installation of grab bars or other items to prevent falls
